Eric Benson - Sustainable Graphic Design
This is talking about social responsibility in terms of an environmental cost, and how simple and small a change you would have to make to save a lot of environmental damage through paper production, printing, wastage etc. This also has cost implications to the client, which makes the proposition of more sustainable and responsible design much more attractive (if it wasn't already).
Benson talks about legacy in this speech and I think this is an important thing to consider when discussing social responsibility of the design industry/designer. A conscious change in our collective actions and mindset because of the very real problem of environmental and cultural damage caused by the stagnant and thoughtless actions of the contemporary system.
